The much discussed Women Empowerment

Women empowerment has become the much talked topic of the year 2018. Be it news channel debates, political party’s agenda for their promotion, school essays and even beauty pageants themes, it is everywhere. It has been pulled and misinterpreted by some of the protectors of women empowerment to an extent that I feel it has lost its real meaning.

In my opinion women empowerment comes to rescue those women who have previously been under certain situations where in they had no command over the decisions or managing their lives but many people have started giving their own meaning to it. For example, some people go to a perfectly happy woman and ask her, “What do you do for a living?” and pardon me, if she says she’s a homemaker, it appears like that’s the most horrifying place to be in. Hello! Have you asked the woman if she’s happy to be a homemaker? Women empowerment is not always about getting women jobs. It is about making sure the woman is content and self-attained in whatever she is doing. So, if you are a homemaker and happy about being one, say it aloud. It’s perfectly alright to sit and home, nap in the afternoon and watch TV by yourself. If you are satisfied and see life as bliss, that is what matters.

Another common practice when women say they don’t have a job is straight away counselling them to follow their passion. It’s brilliant if you have one. Some of these advisers even pick out the hobbies that the women might be interested in. And what happens when they don’t have a hobby like painting, writing, singing, dancing or any other hobby that is visually evident to the outside world? Is the woman less empowered? I suggest, find what gives you happiness? Even if it is cooking for your family or cleaning your house or not doing anything at all. If you don’t like doing anything and you are still happy, tell people on their face, “I am happy being me”.

According to me, this is women empowerment. Not all women have to be overly ambitious to be happy. Not all women have the desire to earn their finances to be independent. Let a woman be her. That is doing true justice to her.
